Well this probably makes me an enabler but I’ve always said that you should always do what you want to do. I’m so happy that I did & you already have blonde hair so it’ll probably be so easy! JUST LISTEN TO YOUR HEART
Anonymous asked: I really want to dye my hair gray like yours. what products did you use? any tips?
Disclaimer: I am not a professional so I can only let you know what I did & what I might have done differently. It’s a long & painful process but these are the products I used:
I bleached my hair twice with a few days wait in between before I dyed it. For the bleach, I mixed Quick Blue Powder Bleach with the 40 Volume Clear Developer. I’m not sure I would use such a strong developer again so maybe try 30 Volume if you want. I think I waited three or four days between the first & second bleach so expect to walk around with rusty blonde hair. After the first bleach, I shampooed it with the So Silver shampoo & left it in for a bit, in order to tone it & get some of the brassy-ness out. Then I had to condition it with the Ion conditioner; I left it in for about thirty minutes before I rinsed it out. After the second bleach, I shampooed it with So Silver but I didn’t condition as I dyed it afterward. The bleach may leave your scalp very sensitive so if you want to wait an extra day before you dye it, that’s fine too. For the dye, I mixed half of the Wella Color Charm 050 with the 30 Volume Creme Developer; I would definitely recommend using a lower volume like 10 or 20 Volume. Then shampoo & condition. At this point, you should have gray hair!
Now, for maintenance: Since the dye tends to wash out fairly quickly, I recommend that you don’t get your hair wet for as long as possible, even wear a shower cap when you shower. I usually waited a week before washing my hair with cold water, which means that the gray should last you about two weeks before you have to touch it up with the remaining dye. Something I forgot to mention, I only had to use half the bottle because my hair is short but you should use what you think you’ll need. In any case, the ratio is 2-1, which means two parts developer & one part dye.
Also, Nancy did most of the work with the bleaching and dying so I recommend having someone else do this to ensure evenness & so that you don’t fuck it up. Bleach can burn your hair off so be mindful of the amount of time you leave it in. This means that you may have to wash it out in sections while bleaching it so that it doesn’t stay longer in one part or less in the other. We did a lot of research before starting any of this to find the best products and techniques. Also, keep in mind that I started with naturally black hair & this is what I had to do to get it white before the dye. I hope that this helps you & if you have any other question just ask!

Bleach & dye! :O
goodoldchip asked: I'm a big far of your hair!! :) I've always wanted to do it, but been it's going to look stupid haha
Thank you!!! I took the plunge & I am very happy with my hair but I definitely consider it a personal decision. In other words, idk if I can recommend it one way or another as you would know what would be the best decision & what would be best for you. Anyway, it’s hair we’re talking about so it’ll always grow back or you can just dye it back if you’re unhappy with the result! Hope that this helps at least a little bit haha :P
